Instructions for Contributors

Hakirah, The Flatbush Journal of Jewish Law and Thought, publishes original, interesting, well-researched and well-organized manuscripts that provide new or more profound insights into areas of Jewish halakhah and hashkafah.

Manuscripts should be sent by e-mail to both: HakirahFlatbush@msn.com and to HZelcer@ReliableHealth.com. You should receive a confirmation we received your article within a week, and a notice of acceptance/rejection within three months. If you do not hear from us within these time frames please contact us.

Short references - for example, to a verse or to a page within the Talmud should be embedded directly into the text of the manuscript. Longer references should be inserted electronically as footnotes, rather than endnotes. The preferred word-processing program is Microsoft Word.

The author’s name should not appear on the manuscript, as it is the Journal’s policy to forward the articles for evaluation without disclosing the author’s identity. On a separate cover sheet include your name, professional affiliation, telephone number, fax number, and e-mail address.

After reviewing and accepting your manuscript, we are likely to request clarification of certain points. A revised electronic copy of your manuscript will then be required.

To encourage a wide variety of contributors, the Journal accepts any standard method of transliteration, provided that the author is consistent throughout the manuscript.

Words in languages other than English should always be italicized, unless the foreign words have become part of the English language.

Articles accepted by Hakirah may not be submitted for publication to other journals without written permission from Hakirah.
